Lonely Planet says Iceland is great and we believe it!

Lonely Planet says Iceland is one of the best places to visit in the world in 2013. Iceland is number 7 on the latest list of places. Of course we believe Lonely Planet is correct :-)

It is very interesting that Iceland ranks highest of all European countries on the list. Bhutan is number one, Thailand number two, and Australia number three.

Best place to see the northern lights in Iceland

The best place to see the northern lights in Iceland is where you are. Sound funny? Well, the northern lights travel at the speed of light which means you're not going to chace after them and catch them. Fact of the matter is, that you need to have clear skies, and solar activity. In 2013 the solar activity is at its maximum. Statistically this means that you should expect the best possible northern lights this year. The cycle takes 11 years which means that the lights are still pretty good in 2014 and 2015. However, the ligths are fickle. One never knows when they show up. The picture above was taken near Reykjavik. Guided Tours Available.

Bicycle Access to Office Buildings Law

Bicycle Access to Office Buildings Law (USA), instituted in 2009, requires many office buildings to grant access to bikes. This is something that has not been looked into in Iceland yet. There are definitely some pros and cons involved. Pros for the commuter bicylist but cons for non-cyclists and perhaps the properties. Imagine a row of bicycles inside of the trendy Harpa concert, conference and opera house in Reykjavik? Read the article here..."You don't have to be a superhuman to commute by bicycle".

Nike Copies Design

Sportswear giant Nike has copied Reykjavik Bike Tour's Icelandic jersey design. Well, the design is not entirely the same, nor is it printed on the same kind of garment, but the underlying design is the same - the more than 50 year old "traditional" Icelandic jersey pattern used for knitted jerseys.

Nike's designer teams are known for innovation and trendsetting work.

Here is Nike's design.

Here is Wim de Dobbeleer's bicycle jersey design.
